1Education of leaders with basic and applicable knowledge.
1Acquirement of basic knowledge and application capability/Development of understanding in closely related academic fields.
2Development of capability in educating basic and applicable knowledges in Materials Science & Engineering.
2Education of materials engineers with capability of actively and creatively performing projects and researches.
1Development of capability in managing and completing research projects
2Development of capability in performing research projects alone (M.S.).
3Development of creative research capability in posing and solving important scientific and engineering problems (Ph.D.).
3Education of leading managers (CEO’s) in materials-related industries.
1Development of written and oral communication skills, teamwork, and leaderships.
2Understanding of the importance of materials-related industries and the technology variation / Development of capability for coping with the technology variation.
3Development of social responsibility and moral recognition as a leader.

Course of Study

ME program: Advanced Materials Science and Engineering Ph.D.
program: Advanced Materials Science and Engineering.
Combined program for ME and Ph.D.: Advanced Materials Science and Engineering.

Department Requirements(This is effective from the students entered before 2021).

1Candidates for MS degree are required to acquire 6 credits from basic common courses and 9 credits from core courses. Overall they are required to acquire at least 24 credits from major courses including special research.
2Candidates for PhD degree are required to acquire 12 credits including MS credits and 18 credits from major courses including MS credits. Overall they are required to acquire at least 36 credits including selective course credits. (6 credits(2 courses) taken in other department are regarded as MS credits if the courses are taught by phD candidate’s academic supervisor)* This is effective from the students entered in the second semester of 2005.
3Students in the combined program are required to register for at least 4 years and to acquire 24 credits (9 from basic common courses) from major courses and 9 credits from special research. Overall they are required to acquire at least 54 credits from major courses and at least 16 credits from individual research courses. (Students in this program may graduate with MS degree only if they fulfill the requirement for the MS degree without completion of the full requirement of this combined program.) The course work period for the students in the combined program who acquire G.P.A. equal to or higher than 4.0 after 6 semesters can be reduced by one year (or half year) based upon the recommendation from his/her academic adviser. In this case, at least 12 credits (14 credits for half-year reduction) from individual research courses are required to acquire. (This is effective from the students entered in the second semester of 2005).
