Alumni
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering Alumni Association is the youngest alumni association in Korea University's College of Engineering, and together with the student council, it is leading the growth of current students and the development of the department. We will continue to work hard so that the Alumni Association, which was newly launched in 2023, can develop even further.
There have been many changes in the names of departments, but the alumni have always been one!
The Department of Metal Engineering was established in 1966, and the Department of Materials Engineering in 1968, respectively, and the history of nurturing talents who will contribute to the development of the nation and mankind in the field of new materials began. In 1995, the basic work of integrating the Department of Metal Engineering and the Department of Materials Engineering began, and the following year, in 1996, the two departments achieved the fruits of integration. The history of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering as an integrated department can be said to have begun in 1996. In 2003, the name of the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering was changed to the Department of Materials Engineering, and in 2005, the name of the department was changed from the Department of Materials Engineering to the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, thus acquiring a name and status befitting the new era.
The development process of the alumni association becoming one
The talents produced over the past 60 years are gathering in the alumni association.
Since the first 15 bachelor's degree recipients in 1970, a total of 5,722 bachelor's degrees have been produced as of August 2023, and alumni have been actively involved in a variety of academic and industrial fields related to materials science at home and abroad, contributing greatly to the development of society.
The Metal Engineering Alumni Association(Geumdonghoe) was founded in 1978, and the Materials Engineering Alumni Association(Hojaehoe) was founded in 1973. Many alumni have contributed to the development of the alumni association and department with their passion and sincerity. In January 2023, the Department of Materials Engineering, the Department of Metal Engineering, and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering were integrated into the Department of Materials Science and Engineering Alumni Association.
Alumni Association that contributes to strengthening the bond between current students and alumni
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering Alumni Association provides support for alumni's congratulations and condolences, and the main meetings include the HOSIN Mountaineering Club and HOSIN Golf Club. We also work with the Student Council to hold sports competitions for current students, an alumni mentoring program that supports the career development of current students, and a place for friendship and exchange during Korea University–Yonsei University rivalry period. We have also developed scholarship programs for current students by gathering the will of alumni.
Alumni Association Moving Forward Together
Based on the active participation and support of alumni and current students, we will move forward as a more solid and meaningful alumni association. Based on our pride as an alumni association centered on the College of Engineering, we will do our best for the development of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Every moment of our relationship is precious, and we look forward to creating our future together within that relationship.
